The inspiration behind the Molten Disc stretches back thousands of years. Historically, ancient coins, medallions and gold nuggets were either kept in money pouches or as part of wearable currency that you could use to pay for things especially during travel. You simply removed a coin from a bracelet or necklace to trade for goods, transportation, accommodation or whatever you needed. It was often safer on your person than in a money pouch or box where thieves might steal it. 

Gold coins ceased circulating as everyday currency in the early to mid-20th century, as nations abandoned the gold standard to print fiat money to fund wars and navigate the Great Depression. The US stopped circulating them in 1933, while the UK withdrew gold sovereigns from daily use during World War I. 

Once currency was introduced and became standardised gold medallions and coins were elevated from being merely currency; they represented prosperity, achievement and personal identity—a symbol of status. They became more investment products rather than a daily currency. And these coins, whether loose or in the form of bracelets and necklaces would be passed down from generation to generation as inheritance.

Many walks along the Wittering Beaches in Chichester have inspired the subtle satin and sandblasted finishes that have become synonymous with the collection. Looking across the shoreline, the sand has an extraordinary softness, created by countless tiny particles of quartz, glass, mica and other natural or organic minerals. Together they produce an almost frosted appearance that changes with every shift in light.

As the tide recedes and sunlight dances across the beach, tiny grains sparkle like scattered jewels, while droplets of seawater catch the light with a delicate brilliance. It is this magical interplay between texture and sparkle that inspired our satin and sandblasted finishes and scattering of gemstones.
