💎 July Jewels & Summer Sparkle 💎
Corundum, Colour, and Curated Inspiration

Get ready for Wimbledon with one of our beautiful diamond tennis bracelets!

Yellow or white gold—which do you prefer?

As July shines in all its glory, we turn our gaze to the vibrant heart of summer, packed with events on the social calendar—from Wimbledon Tennis and the Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival to the start of the BBC Proms. Closer to home at Goodwood, we’re spoilt for choice with the Festival of Speed, the Qatar Goodwood Festival (Glorious Goodwood), and the ever-glamorous Goodwood Revival. It’s the perfect season to dress up and bring out your favourite sparkling gems!

This summer, bright reds and corals are making waves in fashion, and what better way to embrace the trend than with strawberry rubies, rose tourmalines, and hot pink sapphires? These luscious tones pair beautifully with crisp white cropped chinos or flowing linen dresses—adding a bold pop of cherry red or watermelon pink. For Goodwood Revival, red is always a 1950s classic!

And don’t forget—ruby is July’s birthstone, making it the perfect time to indulge. Speaking of Goodwood, keep an eye on our window display … we have a few surprise features planned at the end of the month!

🎉 Celebrating Independence – Locally and Proudly

While Independence Day may be a celebration across the Atlantic, here in Chichester, we’re also marking a different kind of independence—our own! Every July, Chichester BID holds a month-long celebration of independent businesses, shining a spotlight on the unique shops that give our town its character.

As an independent jeweller, we’re honoured to have stood the test of time—especially in an era where many high street businesses, particularly in seaside towns, are sadly disappearing. We owe our longevity to you—our loyal customers—who continue to trust us with adorning your most meaningful moments with stunning gems.

We’re committed to evolving with the times, blending modern design and technology with the timeless craftsmanship of traditional goldsmithing. And as we look forward to the future, we simply want to say: thank you. Your continued support inspires everything we do. We’re proud to be part of a community that values quality luxury, unique design, and meaningful connection.

Thank you for choosing independent, always.

A stunning way to honour all things made in Britain? Why not wear a patriotic palette; Red rubies, white diamonds, and blue sapphires this July! 🇬🇧💎

🔴 Radiant Rubies, Brilliant Blues 🔵

While ruby is July’s birthstone, and sapphire is September’s, both rubies and sapphires are part of the same mineral group—corundum—and come in an array of dazzling hues perfect for the season. These gemstones score a 9 on the Mohs Hardness Scale making them suitable for daily wear. Made of the same chemical composition the only thing that separates them is the colouring element that makes them blue (iron) or red (chromium)!

Whether you favour the boldness of a royal red ruby or the regal calm of a Ceylon blue sapphire, these stones bring colour, depth, and the wow factor to any jewellery piece.

Try pairing a ruby pendant with white linen or layer blue sapphire rings with sun-kissed skin and gold bangles for a sophisticated summer look.

💼 A Date with Cartier: A Legacy in Jewels

Last month, some of us had the absolute pleasure of visiting the V&A Museum in London to experience Cartier, the Exhibition—a breathtaking celebration of the maison’s most iconic creations. This rare showcase brings together masterpieces from Cartier’s own archives alongside exceptional pieces loaned by private collectors, including some from the British Royal Family.

From opulent tiaras, the Panther collection to sapphire, ruby, emerald and diamond encrusted timepieces. It reminded us how jewellery is not just adornment—it is heritage, artistry, and innovation.

If you’re a lover of bold statements, exquisite gems, and legendary design, this exhibition is truly unmissable. It’s the first of its kind in over 30 years, and with many of the items on loan from private collections, it may never happen again.

The exhibition is running only until November and tickets are selling out fast (V&A Members can visit at any time for free) so make sure you don’t miss out. Here are a few highlights of our favourite pieces but these photos simply don’t do them justice!

Meet Our Sales Consultants!

Charlie joined Timothy Roe in January 2024 as a sales consultant so is fairly new to the team. Some of you have probably met her already but let’s get to know her some more in this Q&A!

  1. How long have you been in jewellery and how did you get into it?

My story is a bit of a long and varied one! I started out studying languages which took me to Europe. I actually fell into jewellery by accident in 2007 whilst living in East Germany. Fresh out of university, I took a part time Christmas job to practice my German working at a department store whilst teaching English part time. I was in the jewellery department selling various brands of jewellery and watches and ended up staying for 10 years in a part time capacity. Within that time I also completed a HND Graphic Design and Illustration course and was working freelance in marketing. I later moved into retail banking and foreign currency accounts in 2016 which later segued into gold bullion trading in 2020 at the Degussa Head Office in Frankfurt but I missed the jewellery. Some of my bullion colleagues were former gemmologists, goldsmiths and jewellery designers, and I started doing my family tree and found out my ancestors were silversmiths in Birmingham and this reignited my passion for jewellery. So I quit my job, and moved back to the UK in 2023 after 15 years in Germany to pursue a career in gemmology and jewellery and that’s where I am now. So I’d say I have 11.5 years in jewellery retail although being now in manufacturing for the last year has been a huge leap. You gain a much deeper level of jewellery knowledge.

2. What is your favourite part of your job?
I really enjoy talking about gemstones and jewellery history and educating customers on these topics. Little quirky facts and interesting whimsical details just make it so much fun. I love that my role is so varied and can be creative but also technical and science-related. I enjoy creative writing so love writing the blog posts and I really enjoy bouncing ideas for jewellery designs off my colleagues who have so much experience and creativity.

3. What has been your most memorable or favourite experience/sale/piece of jewellery?

When I first started Timothy Roe I was nervous about handling a bespoke commission consultation on my own. It is different to selling a piece already created out of the window. My first client wanted an engagement ring for his partner and together we designed it, went through all the elements and details and it was just such a great first experience for us both and the end result was stunning. We both learned a lot and he was patient and just the perfect customer for my first commission. He didn’t know he was my first but I was grateful to work with such a lovely young man. We also discussed how we was going to propose in the US! There is always an element of anticipation and fear with designing bespoke pieces as you hope to interpret what the customer wants and get it right. Relaying this back to the designers and goldsmiths and making sure we’re on the same page is always a challenge but when that comes together it is so rewarding. I don’t think I will forget that. I got to meet his partner soon after to help them choose their wedding bands which was so lovely!

4. What is your favourite metal and favourite gemstone and why?

Rose gold for sure. And I am probably on my own there in that camp! Not many people like it but I do and it just compliments my light skin tone. That said, I wear all colours and like the metal to bring out the gemstones. My favourite gem—that is so hard! I love so many for their own unique properties but I do really like blues, oranges and greens; tourmalines especially the electric blue Paraiba. As boring as it seems I do love the different colour garnets, too as scientifically they are really cool and complicated! Merelani Mint garnet and mandarine garnet colours are so fun and the Merelani garnets fluoresce orange under UV light! I love gems that fluoresce. Anything fun and playful with light like moonstone and opal. See! It is just too hard to choose one— I love them all!

5. Name a piece of jewellery someone should absolutely own?

A solitaire gemstone pendant necklace in either claw setting or rubover is always a staple in any jewellery box. You could have a diamond solitaire or any coloured gem. It lifts any outfit, can be dressed up or down and looks stylish.

Rub Over Set Diamond Solitare Pendant £2,350.00

Pink Sapphire Pendant in 9ct White Gold £550.00

Australian Opal Necklace in 9ct Yellow Gold £795.00
