Hello October!
October’s Golden Glow is Here
October has arrived, draping the world in that magical golden light that turns trees and fields into a shimmering blanket. It’s harvest season, with leaves soon to tumble in shades of amber, russet, and flame. The palette of the month is rich, cosy and inviting: burgundy wine reds, glowing pumpkins, comforting hot chocolate browns, and golden wheat yellows. This is the season of warmth, transformation, and gathering — whether around crackling bonfires with friends or amidst the playful spookiness of Halloween filling shop windows.
Beyond the seasonal frights, October is all about romantic yellow gold. From the autumn hues around us to daily news updates on rising gold prices, demand for this timeless metal is stronger than ever. And right on cue, we have some exquisite new yellow gold creations fresh from the workshop, ready to shine.
🗓️ Important Dates for Your Diary
The year is drawing to a close, and we have just two more dates left for jewellery and watch valuations. Do you need an insurance valuation for your collection, or perhaps a renewal before the end of 2025?
Tuesday 4th November — Next available appointment
Tuesday 2nd December — Final appointment of the year
Please remember to bring all original packaging, receipts, and certificates for an accurate valuation.
🎁 Plan Ahead: Bespoke Christmas Gifts
Christmas may seem far away, but it’s closer than you think. We’re already preparing our Christmas window display — and some spectacular new pieces are on the way!
A bespoke jewellery creation takes around six weeks from design finalisation to completion, which makes now the perfect time to bring your ideas to life. Our engraving specialists will close their books at the end of November, so early planning is essential if you’d like something truly one-of-a-kind, crafted to be treasured for generations.
Alongside bespoke commissions, we’ll also have a beautiful selection of stock pieces available — with more arriving in the workshop over the coming months. Keep an eye out, and secure those special gifts before they disappear!
💎 October’s Birthstones: Tourmaline & Opal
This month honours two extraordinary gems:
Tourmaline — celebrated for its dazzling spectrum of colour, from deep forest greens to vibrant pinks and rich autumnal tones. Tim has a particular passion for tourmalines, even hand-cutting some of the stones himself. He’s currently working on some stunning new tourmaline pieces — watch for them in our windows and online soon!
Opal — a stone of magic and mystery, its kaleidoscope of shifting light echoes fiery leaves and flickering candlelight. Tim especially loves Australian opals, with their playful colours. Black opals, with their striking blues and greens, are really breathtaking. Some of our gems come from the renowned Cooper Pedy mines, famous for producing opals of extraordinary beauty.
Both gems tell a story of colour and light — perfect for October-born jewellery lovers.

📈 Market Insight: The Enduring Allure of Gold
Gold prices continue to rise, driven higher by global political tensions and economic instability. For collectors and connoisseurs, investing in high jewellery crafted in gold is not only a statement of elegance but also of prudence — a lasting treasure in uncertain times.
Despite soaring prices (with predictions of up to $4,000 an ounce by Christmas), customers are choosing more pieces in luminous yellow gold.

Meet Our Sales Consultants:
It’s been a while since our last Q&A but we’re back with Becky this month! Get to know our silversmith scientist on the shop floor!
1. How long have you been in jewellery and how did you get into it?
Before children I worked in scientific research. When my children were young I undertook silversmithing courses at a local college. I set up my own business and sold my designs at craft fairs and through local shops. When the children were old enough I decided to return to work part time and accepted a sales job at Timothy Roe and have been here ever since!
2. What is your favourite part of your job?
The diverse range of tasks I perform. Always learning new things. Meeting lots of interesting people. My lovely colleagues.
3. What has been your most memorable or favourite experience/sale/piece of jewellery?
My personal molten disc pendant with Tsavorites, so easy to wear every day with lovely vibrant colours and so many customers remark on it and we’ve made several to copy it.
4. What is your favourite metal and favourite gemstone and why?
Emeralds and teal sapphires, Yellow Gold. Green is my favourite colour and is enhanced by the warm colour of gold. I love the colour change of teal sapphires when viewed in different lights.
5. Name a piece of jewellery someone should absolutely own?
A piece of jewellery that is classic in style and robust enough to be handed down through generations like a signet ring.
Timothy Roe Medium Molten Disk Pendant with Tsavarite Garnets £710.00
