Bespoke Stone Cutting and Faceting

A short photo diary of a uniquely cut amethyst, set into a bespoke platinum ring mount with baguette diamonds.

Preparation

A faceting diagram is prepared after taking measurements of the rough gem material (amethyst) and pavilion and crown angles are generated by special software, for each of of the facets.

Taking Shape...

Initial facets are applied with the roughest abrasive media on the lapping wheel.

Mixed Media

A variety of compounds and media are used get the best polish

Flawless Finish

A cerium oxide compound provides a beautiful finish to every facet of the amethyst.

Protoyping

Here we used a resin model to ensure the stone was cut to the correct dimensions to fit the ring mount, which was to be cast in platinum.

Components Assemble!

Here we see the resin model, the faceted amethyst, the unfinished platinum casting, and the baguette diamonds - all ready to polish and set.
